The Anaerobic Glycolysis energy system or V8 supercar is the second most powerful of the three energy systems. It is the predominant energy systems in activities such as 100 metre swimming, 1000 metre track cycling and 400 and 800 metre running. It is able top resynthesise ATP at a fast rate and is rapidly activated at the start of intense exercise. The anaerobic glycolysis energy system is predominant for 30-60 seconds. The only fuel source for anaerobic glycolysis are carbohydrates from muscle, glycogen and blood glucose. Lactic acid is the main by-product and the build of lactic acid in the body causes fatigue.
