Internal and external violence
External violence occurs when there is a collision that causes damage. Internal violence is divided into two categories, according to
the nature of the injury; acute injuries and chronic injuries also called overuse injuries. Acute injuries are caused from a specific traumatic incident and are a rapid onset of short, sharp pain. Acute injuries can range in severity from small cuts or abrasions to dislocations or fractures. They tend to be short in duration. Chronic injuries or overuse injuries, as the name suggests, are a progressive injury that stems from overworking the muscles in a particular area or repeated stress and trauma. Over time the muscles and bones break down but causing less pain than acute injuries. This causes the athlete to ignore the injury and carry on with their activities. Over time, it will build up and cause more problems which means that they are more dangerous than acute injuries. An example of a chronic injury is stress fractures. They are caused by repeated use of a specific area of your body, causing tiny cracks in your bone each time.
